Once we got home, Dylan and I were going to visit local nursing homes around the Indianapolis area, Bob and Chad were going to volunteer at the Wilson Boys and Girls club (Chad was going to run the basketball program, of course), and Luke was going to order a pizza.

CHAPTER 2: "What's That Noise?"
Well, it was about 6:45 AM, a smooth and successful ride so far, 70 mph on an open, northeastern Pennsylvania interstate. I was driving and the guys were sleeping contently when we approached a bridge that spanned a small creek. Right before we got to the bridge the back-passenger's side tire came off the van.

CHAPTER 3: "The Aftermath"
The entire back of the van was engulfed in sparks as we skidded out of control down the interstate. Somehow, we made it safely to the shoulder. I told the rest of the guys to stay in the van while Bob and I got out partly to inspect the damage and partly because we were pretty sure it wasn't safe to stay in the van.

The van had slid approximately the length of a football field on the back axle, which was now about half gone. Everything was gone. Everything. The tire, rim, brake drum, brakes and everything that holds it all together was nowhere to be found.

CHAPTER 4: "The Search"
Bob and I began the 25 to 30 second jog across the bridge (the other way) to look for the wheel. We immediately noticed that the grass on the side of the road where the wheel had actually come off the van was on fire. Flames shot up 6 to 10 inches off the ground nearly claiming our ability to walk in it's grip. Dodging the obstacle, we continued on the hunt. Up the hill we found the brake drum lying on the grass. It was steaming in the crisp, early morning air. We could feel the heat radiating from it's body.

"190 degrees Fahrenheit, you think?" said Bob

"No. Celsius" I said

CHAPTER 5: "No...you don't think...no..."
Bob and I left the brake drum where it lay as to let it cool off and went on looking for the wheel. After much searching Bob said "What's that? Down the hill?"
I didn't know the area and neither did Bob so we were going to have to go check it out.

Down the hill, below the bridge was a small, peaceful creek. We knew our search was over when we saw the wheel lying a few feet from the edge of the creek and immediately began sighing sighes of relief. But as we got closer, we both noticed a large deer lying about 5 feet from the wheel. After further inspection we found that the deer was not only dead but had died very recently AND it had a rather gaping head wound.

CHAPTER 6: "So This Is What We Think Happened"
So this is what we think happened: The deer came to the creek, as it did every day, around 6:45 in the morning. When the wheel exploded of the van it flew down the hill and smashed the poor deer's head as it was taking its morning drink.

CHAPTER 7: "What Are The Odds?"
I know. What are the odds that the wheel came off and smashed the deer's head in? BUT what are the odds that the wheel just happened to fly off and land next to a freshly dead deer with a rather gaping head wound?

Merry Christmas!!

Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Here's my computer!! .....

Well, much has happened since the last webloging. I am a happily married man now. I was going to take a picture of me the day before the wedding and then the day after the wedding and the one before I was going to have a blank look on my face but then on the day after one I was going to smile. But I don't have a digital camera. But I have smiled alot since I've been married.

I love being married.

Highlights of Jon & Amy's marraige (so far)...

-going to bed together and waking up together, I would have to say is the best thing about being married so far

-smoking out on the balcony after dinner

-amy had an ear ache the other day so I went to Walgreen's to get some stuff. when I went up to talk to the pharmacist, I said "My wife's ear is plugged up, which one of these would you recommend?"

-actually I might change the first highlight to going to bed together, having wild passionate sex, and waking up together

-eating amy's delicious breakfasts

Just to name a few. Tonight is the first night that Amy and I are not spending together. She went down to San Diego to visit a friend. No actually, Luke, we're doing fine and I don't need you to do whatever it is that you were about to offer.

I miss most of you guys very much. We'll see you soon.

Thursday, March 30, 2006

Last evening a group of five gentlement had possibly the best idea since "roommate day". The old roomies from Victoria participated in a 5-way call. It was better than the 5-way chilli mac at Steak 'n Shake, and that's saying something. Here is an illustration to demonstrate:

Dan and I were 30 feet apart, so this diagram is not to scale. However, the map of the United States is to scale because I am awesome at using Paint. It was good talking with the boys. I felt connected. We could probably be in an AT&T commercial - the one from the early 90's when they still had the slogan "Reach out and touch somebody."

The End.

Thursday, January 19, 2006

The gayest night of my life:

Dan and I decided to meet for dinner. Dan said we should go to "Father's Office" which is a crowded bar that serves good burgers but it gets really crowded so Dan went when they openned so that we would have a table. Well, I got stuck in rush hour traffic so Dan waited at a table in this packed bar all by himself for about an hour. Once I got there we got our meal....I say our meal because we shared one. And we got the same drink that was called "Bubble Up." Once we were done with the meal Dan went and paid and we left. We went to the grocery store on the way home. Once we got home we hopped on Dan's tandem and road down to Barnes and Noble's bookstore. Then we walked around for a bit and went to 2 shoe stores before getting on the tandem to head home. The chain broke on the tandem when we still had over a mile to go so we had to walk the bike back. Finally, we got to Dan's house, went inside, and had milk and cookies. Milk and cookies.

Yeah, so...

1)Dan waited for an hour for his male friend

2)We shared a meal and got the same, gay-named drink

3)Dan paid

4)Grocery store

5)Tandem

6)Trip to the bookstore

7)Shoe shopping

I had a great one. Sadly, my family was all scattered around the country this year, but a sweet little angel took me in (I'm referring to Amy) and I spent Thanksgiving with her family and it was great. I love her family. I love you Dave. You're a great guy and I'm going to take good care of your daughter. What's that? Food? Shelter? ...I'll figure it out. I will! No, I'm not yelling...I just...no! My music is not worthless!! Because, Dave, I don't want to be a pastor!! (this is the point where Dave gives me the look...the look I know all too well...he wants to arm wrestle.)

So I'm in california. I'm here all week. I'm currently waiting on Dan to call me so that I can meet up with him. We're going to watch the colts game. Alright.

AMY'S BIRTHDAY IS COMING UP!! DECEMBER 10TH SHE'LL BE 25 YEARS OLD!!

Friday, November 18, 2005

Well, ...I'm sorry. OK, I'm sorry. Let's just forget about the past 43 days and move on.

Speaking of moving...the guys that I live with (Dylan, Luke, Thom, and Dylan) just moved our furniture around so that we have a smaller "loungy" area that we will be calling the fellowship hall as soon as we can get the sign made, and our previous living area is now the music room. It's really cool. Plus we just turned our heat on and it feels really good. So those are 2 things that feel really good.

Here's a story: Amy and I were running around town the other day and after we had gone several places we found ourselves at Starbucks. While we were waiting in the drive-through, we heard a cat meowing. Amy made some off color remark about how kittens should all be slaughtered and eaten, but other than that nothing much was said. Then we drove to Amy's Bible study and, before she got out of the car, we heard the same meow. So I popped the hood and found a small kitty-kitty-cat wedged in the engine!! So, long story short - we named the cat "hoody" and she's staying at the house that I live in with a few guys (Dylan, Luke, Thom, and Dylan). Our landlord said that we are not allowed to have pets. But he didn't say anything about cats.

If anyone knows anyone who would want a sweet little kitty-kitty cat post it on your xanga then wait a few months for me to get back on and reply to you.

Best Wishes! -Jon McLaughlin

Wednesday, October 05, 2005

I had a good day today. I slept in a bit, went on a walk, wrote some songs, walked around some more, bought some chips, walked around and ate some of them, walked to the beach, was picked up by Luke and Chad half way there, they did the thing where they go past you half a block and you have to turn around and walk back to where they stopped like little fags, went to taco bell, paid for their little fag meals, went to the beach, ate our meals at the beach, then sat on the beach with Luke and Chad watching Luke bury his legs from the knee down which took him about 30 minutes while he had a smirk on his face the whole time because he couldn't wait until he put his legs in, buried them and then proceeded to pretend that he got his legs blown off in some war. Chad and I saw it coming from a mile away and only wondered which war he would choose. Now we're back at Dan's and we're all going to go eat somewhere to celebrate our last night in town.
